“Hey love, can we talk to you for a minute?” Logan asked from his position behind us as he held open the door to the dining hall. Lucie nodded before walking out of view, the twins letting the door shut. Grigori shuffled on my shoulder adjusting until he felt secure enough to stay without falling.

“What do you think they’re talking about?” Dante questioned, his head tilted slightly as he looked at the door. We turned and headed towards the food, figuring they would be a bit before they came inside.

“More than likely ways to handle those kinds of attacks,” Cam reasoned as he adjusted his black plastic frames bringing attention to his attractive hazel eyes. “You remember how bad they used to be a few years ago after everything happened.” I clenched my jaw as a silence fell over the group, the dark cloud of the twins’ past hanging over us.

“What does everyone think of Lucie?” Dante tried to reroute the quickly derailing conversation. At his question, my mind focused on the unique woman outside. The phantom pain within my eyes surfaced as I remembered the stark contrast of bruises on her pale skin, anger flooding my system. Grigori's wing smacked me in the side of the head at the memory, his own irritation at not being able to do anything flooded our bond. Pushing it away, I focused on getting food and how I felt other than the anger that threatened to break through.

She was beautiful, no doubt about that. Her pale skin nearly glowed in my familiar's sight, and her deep blue eyes filled with shadows held me captive in their haunted depths. Something about her though, unsure of what it was, caught my attention the most. I could not put my finger on it, it could have been that I recognized the sign of pain in her or it could have been something else, but whatever it was I was helpless to stop the pull.

"She's different," Hudson supplied vaguely. "I want to keep her around."

"She seems to fit in well with us, not too off-put by any of our obnoxious behaviors or conversations," Cam added. Dante nodded with both of them before all eyes focused on me and Grigori. Apparently, I had taken too long to answer, my hawk smacking me in the ear once more.

"I like her," I murmured, the gravel in my voice giving out at the end of the statement, but I still caught the looks of surprise from the others. None of them, especially Cam, would have assumed I would be open to another.

Something about her though, I thought, she is special.
